When I was at the height of my weight loss struggle my only goal was to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I played all kinds of games to make the scale move. I skimped on water so I’d be lighter.
Instead of focusing on providing my body with nutrition, I fixated on the number on the scale.
This was my first mistake.
I skipped healthy foods that I thought would slow down my weight loss, such as healthy carbs, and I didn’t think about important things like vitamins, minerals, or hydration.
Unfortunately, I’d put such a high priority on reaching a scale weight that I was ruining my overall health, but I didn’t know what else to do.
I was ALL about getting to that magic scale weight. Unfortunately, cutting calories drastically can cause your body to burn muscle for fuel. Losing that muscle caused a drop in my weight, so the scale moved in the right direction and I was happy!
However, losing that precious muscle actually made it easier for me to gain that weight back in the form of belly fat. Dehydrating myself gave me dry skin, brittle hair, and made my workouts a lot more challenging.
What I should have done was focus on gaining weight in the form of muscle so that I could boosts my metabolism, making it easier for me to burn off fat! Having more muscle also protects you from injury and helps you perform all kinds of day-to-day activities.
